Sophie's Health Update

Sophie has practically snored since birth. And out of her ten months alive so far, I think she has been congested for 8 of them. I took her to the ENT Doctor and he said that her tonsils (and likely adenoids) are a size 3 on a scale of 1 to 4, 1 being normal size. So he says to plan on further action when she gets a little older. In the mean time I should watch for Sleep Apnea. That is when, while she is sleeping, she holds her breath for 5 seconds or more. I have only noticed her doing it for 2-3 seconds so far. And I think it is allergy related...which brings me to the allergy update.

I weaned her last week. I felt that she needed to be on a stricter diet so as to more reliably avoid any milk products weezling their way into her body from mine. She loves the soy formula. You should see how excited she gets to watch me prepare it. She loooves when I warm the water first in the microwave. She always wants to peer through the glass at the rotating cup of water. She holds the bottle like a champ, too. She doesn't even miss me. Crazy. Anyway. We went and saw the allergist today. He said she may have a more serious condition than the average milk allergy which is outgrown within 2-3 years. They will run some tests next week. I'll keep you posted.

Poor sweet thing! I'm so glad she switched to formula good for you and that you had a fairly painless weaning process. I pray her allergy stuff comes out for the best and that it is something that is easy to control.
Cute pics too, how did you do that three in a row one?

Poor Sophie!! (and poor mommy who probably agonizes over these things). I hope everything works out- I know that can be tough to have so many tests, doctor appts., etc. Not fun. But, at least she's adorable, which makes it that much more worth it, right? :)

Annie, I am sorry that Sophie has to deal with alergies. I had food, and environmental alergies that where dianoised at age 2. I had milk alergies too (only allowed 16 oz a day). I outgrew the alergies about middle school. I have none now. I saw a non alergen chocolate cupcake recipe on Martha Stewart today, I will send it and it maybe can be her birthday cake!! (unless they decide she is alleric to chocolate too, which I was...) Watch for the recipe. Oh, I don't have your email address...I will have to ask Shannon for it. Good luck, she will be fine. What a doll! Love, Janet

That's some stressful stuff! I would be constantly worried, especially about the sleep apnea. I think Scott has that-no joke. He scares me sometimes because his throat closes and he stops breathing. Anyway, Sophie is so stinking cute!! I love those pictures of her! Let us know how the allergy tests turn out.

Yuck, that is a pain to deal with. Kason has the same thing. So he is drinking chocolate soy milk...lucky kid.

I love that you took a picture of her looking into the microwave. My mom used to tell me that it would make me go blind if I did that.

Adam would call what Sophie has "nose valve". Adam was the same way growing up, it just took them longer to figure it out. He had sleep apnea as a baby too. Hopefully everything will get a little easier as she gets older. She is so adorable though and I love her excitement for her soy milk!
